OVERVIEW

Tech Jobs Academy is a collaboration between Microsoft, the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline and the City University of New York (CUNY). In its pilot year, these partners have joined together to launch Tech Jobs Academy at CUNY’s New York City College of Technology. This program expands access to industry-driven technical training to unemployed or underemployed New Yorkers who are passionate about launching a new career in technology.

Tech Jobs Academy students will spend 16 weeks developing highly sought-after skills in cloud and server administration, as well as building professional skills to help them land a job upon completion. This pilot program will serve twenty-five motivated New Yorkers.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Check your eligibility

    Do you meet our eligibility criteria? If selected, you'll be asked to present proof of eligibility (such as tax returns to verify income), so make sure you qualify.

  2. Attend an info session (optional)

    Come to an info session (held on March 22 and March 24) to learn more about the program, the application process, and the field for which you're preparing.

  3. Fill out application

    The application helps us get to know you better. Answer questions about your interest in technology and what gets you excited about the program. Apply here.

  4. Take math and reading test

    Take an assessment to show your math skills (at least 11th grade level on TABE test) and reading proficiency (at least 10th grade level on TABE test).

  5. Pass tech assessment

    Learn server fundamentals and take an online entrance exam to prove your knowledge.

  6. Interview

    If selected, you will be invited to interview for a spot in the cohort.

Eligibility Requirements

  • At least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Unemployed or underemployed *
  • NYC resident
  • Able to legally work in the U.S.
  • Able to commit to full time training (minimum 40 hours/week in class + 15 hours/week outside of class)
  • Available for employment immediately upon graduation
  • Meet all federal selective service requirements, if applicable
  • * less than $50K annual salary (individual)
